The Democratization of Creativity

We live in interesting times.

Technology has taken the limits off of what creative people can do.  No longer is creativity the function of wealth.

Now, school teachers who writes a great parody of Adele can become instantly famous. Just ask Tennessee elementary teacher Mary Morris.  Her parody called Snow has 1.5 million views in less than 4 days.

15 years ago, this video would not have been made.  It would have cost too much money.  No matter how good Mary Morris is, 15 years ago no one would have been able to make such a great video without some serious change.

Today it could well have been done with just a smart phone, complete with editing (but my guess is that it was mastered with a Mac Pro).

Another example of a great video that went viral, was produced by a friend of mine for a church Easter service two years ago.  It too demonstrates the democratization of creativity.  It wouldn’t have been possible for a church to put together so good a video without serious money just a few years ago.
