Using Unsplash as Your Wallpaper

Photo by: Greg RakozyOne of the sites that I love the most is called Unsplash.com.

I love it because the quality of the pictures there is  really unparalleled, at least in so far as it comes to open-source or readily redistributable professional photography.

Several months ago I started wanting to use the photos found him on splash as the wallpaper on my desktop. That began a search for me to find an easy way to do that.

I started using Unsplash photos on my Mac’s desktop and then thought that it would be nice to begin to use on my phone as well.

Why?

The quality of the pictures is amazing.

I got to thinking that you’d be the same. This post is about ways in which you can access that excellent photography found on splash.com on both your computer as well as on your phone.

Unsplash as Your Wallpaper: MacOS

For the Mac operating system the Mac app Store contains a free app called IRvue.  This app connects to the Sunsplash.com API and enables you to automatically update on the frequency of interval that you choose. I have ranged from using one hour intervals 230 minute intervals, which is the shortest interval available.

IRvue for the Mac OS will actually allow you to change the pictures on your desktop without having to taking action.

Unsplash As Your Wallpaper: iOS

There is an app for your iOS device called unsplashwall.  This particular app enables you to see pictures from Unsplash.com and save them to your device.  Unlike IRvue for MacOS, the unsplashwall app requires you to actually take some action to get the photos to your home screen.

It’s not very difficult use. First, you must save the Picture to your Apple photos on your iOS device, and then select set as wallpaper from the context menu.

You can change the pictures as often as you want.  Unsplash adds 10 new curated high quality photos every 10 days

Unsplash as Your Wallpaper: Android OS

For you Android users out there, you’re also in luck.

Google Play has an app for you which taps in to the Unsplash repository.  Called Wallsplash, this app does pretty much what the apps for iOS and MacOS do.

Because I haven’t used it, I can only mention Wallsplash, not really recommend it.

Another wallpaper app for Android that supports Unsplash photos is Muzei.  Read about that here.
